This week, Flex Academies ONE Founder and CEO Joshua Chernikoff appeared in a story by ABC7 Reporter Horace Holmes on virtual summer camps. In the report, Chernikoff gave parents tips on what to look for when looking for a virtual summer camp. The story can be viewed here.
The report acknowledged that camp this year will be different, thanks to the coronavirus. Campers won’t be on site, but in front of their computer screens, experiencing camp virtually.
Chernikoff calls it “summer camp reimagined.” He appeared on camera and said that the first and foremost consideration for parents for any camp should be safety.
“Don’t just go to any old summer camp. Make sure you trust them, even if it’s virtual,” he said.
Chernikoff said to look for a camp that offers a chance for kids to build some skills. He emphasized that camp should be about experiencing new things, pointing out, “It’s not a babysitting service.”
He emphasized the importance of finding a camp with “rockstar instructors” -- experts who understand the camera and how to use it to engage kids.
“Make sure these people who are on the other side of the camera are going to connect with their kids,” Chernikoff said. “Because if they don’t connect, then summer camp is going to end very quickly.”
He said to make sure that your kids attend a virtual camp that’s social, where they can see other kids and learn along with them.
And finally, Chernikoff said, summer camp should be about having fun.
The report ended advising parents to ask virtual camp counselors lots of questions, and since many sessions have already started, suggesting that parents ask to observe an online session to see what a camp day looks like.
Chernikoff says that it’s not too late to sign up for Flex Academies ONE’s Summer Camp Reimagined. To learn more, visit their website: https://www.flexone.live
